Pick These Special Perfumes for Your Quinceañera

January 13, 2009 at 6:06 AM by Isabella Wall | Comments

La quinceañera party is an event that engages all the senses in the celebration of your transition into womanhood. It's seeing (los vestidos!), hearing (la música!), tasting (la torta!), and touching (besos!). Why not include smell? A lot of people remember a person by their perfume. Your quinceañera is a great time to debut your own special, signature scent.

Before you go out buying just any old perfume, it's a good idea to get a sample from your department store and try it on for a while to see if you really like it. It's also important to see how others react to the way you smell when you are wearing it. When you shop for your quinceañera perfume, remember that less is more. You want a fragrance that stays with you long after you apply it. If you have to continue applying in order to be satisfied, it means you are applying too much.

Christina Aguilera's Inspire fragranceThese are five of the most popular types of perfume: floral, fruity, oriental, woody, and fresh. One way to make sense of the type of perfume you wear on your quinceañera is by choosing a fragrance that goes with your theme.

Floral: The scent of a single type of flower or of a combination of flowers. These scents are romantic and elegant. Some of the base fragrances for floral scents are lavender, gardenia, and geranium. Examples: Stella McCartney Perfume, Kenzo Flower by Kenzo, Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture, Inspire by Christina Aguilera (pictured right).

Fruity: The scent of fruit, usually citrus fruits. Some of the base fragrances for fruity scents are lemon and orange blossom. Examples: Nina by Nina Ricci, Sun Flowers by Elizabeth Arden, and Beautiful Sheer perfume by Estée Lauder.

Oriental: A soft scent made out of spices. It's more dramatic and exotic, especially for a sophisticated and elegant theme. Some of the favorite bases are vanilla and cinnamon. Example: Lalique Perfume by Lalique, Sun Moon & Stars by Karl Lagerfeld, and Jean Paul Gaultier Perfume.

Woody: A natural scent. This fragrance would work well with an outdoor quinceañera. The most common bases are sandalwood, patchouli, and cedar. Examples: Habanita by Molinard, Passion by Elizabeth Taylor, and Escada by Escada.

Fresh: Also called the green scents, they are light and airy perfumes and are appropriate for the more modern and casual quinceañera. Examples: Sirene by Vicky Tiel, Covet by Sarah Jessica Parker, and J.Lo Glow by Jennifer Lopez.

My favorite picks for quinceañera are: Mariah Carey's Luscious Pink, Vera Wang's Princess, and Paris Hilton's Fairy Dust. Of course, you could also take MisQuinceMag.com's What's Your Fragrance? quiz to find out the match for you.

Tell me which perfume you think you'll pick!
