My Quince...Before I was Editor of Seventeen Mexico

By Tammy Tibbetts

katy editor of seventeen mexicoLeer en españolread

q:Quinces are a lot about following tradition, but what did you do to be unique?
a:I had my quince in a club and I was not wearing a big pink dress. My outfit was black leggings with a loose black shirt - it was so cool!

q:Clubs are made for dancing! What do you remember about that?
a:Although I didn’t have chambelanes, of course I invited my crush and danced to pop music with him. I danced a waltz with my father, grandfather, and some uncles. We didn’t have a previous rehearsal, we just started dancing.

q:Is there anything you’d do differently?
a:One thing I didn’t like about my waltz was that my parents didn’t give a waltz song to the DJ, so when we started dancing he played a song from a Latin singer that is called “Tiempo de Vals.” So be prepared with the songs you want to dance!

q:What was your dream when you were 15? How did you make it come true?
a:There is a teen magazine in Mexico call Eres and they had their own celebrity teen awards. Every year I dreamed about being there meeting celebrities, and I knew someday I would make it, even though I didn’t know how. When I finished college, I was looking for a job and I applied to Eres. When they called me and told me there was a position, I was so excited, but I was also like, “I don’t even know how to write!” However, I knew I had to take a chance. So I started reading the magazine carefully and learning as much as I could about the teen market (I was 23). Finally I took the edit test and got in! Then, when the next teen celebrity awards happened, I was there - backstage!

You should never give up or forget what you really want. If you have something in mind, work for it, and don’t rest until you get it. You’ll have to be patient, but believe me, it’s worth it!
