At your quinceañera, you get to proudly represent your culture and family, while feeling more beautiful than ever in a gorgeous gown. You’ll feel like a princess, or maybe even like the winner of Nuestra Belleza México, which is the official beauty pageant of Mexico. Did you know that this popular pageant is turning 15 in 2008? To celebrate, we asked the reigning queen of Nuestra Belleza México, 21-year-old Elisa Nájera Gualito, to tell us about her own quinceañera.

Where was your quinceañera?
I celebrated my 15th birthday with a big party in a beautiful hotel.

What did your quinceañera gown look like?
It was a strapless cream-colored dress.

What songs did you dance to at your quinceañera?
Music by Bryan Adams and Enya.

What was your quinceañera theme?
Everything was very romantic. There were candles everywhere, in the pool and at the entrance, making a path. There was no electric lighting, and there were pink and white flowers all around.

Did anything unexpected happen at your quince and how did you react to it?
Just a little incident — I almost fainted during Mass!

What’s the best party-planning tip you learned from your quince?
You have to be prepared to handle unexpected guests. There can be many who show up!

Who was your chambelán de honor?
My boyfriend.

Where do you keep your tiaras, from quince and pageants?
In a nice black box.

Describe a family member who means a lot to you, and what they did that was special for your quince.
My grandpa. He’s a very old person, and he made a great effort to be there to dance with me. He came in a bus with 40 other members of my family from a faraway state.

Did you dream of being Nuestra Belleza México when you were 15? What is your dream now?
I wasn’t really thinking about it at that time. I admired the women in the pageant, but it became a dream a few years later. Right now my dream is winning Miss Universe and being a good representative of Mexico.

What about your country are you most excited to represent?
I’m proud to represent all Mexicans, especially women, and I would like to show the world our warmth, friendliness, and family traditions.
